A minute is all it takes. Two lines share the board: y = 2x − 1 and y = −x + 5, and one question. Where do they meet? The student moves the −x term across, misses the sign, and lands on x = 4. The tutor doesn't hand over the answer; it highlights that one line and asks about the signs of the parts moved. Second try: 3x = 6, x = 2 — then the graph, two lines crossing exactly where the algebra promised.

The difference

It caught the sign error on line two.
